CFC Alert! Help block dirty energy

 CFC alert header.JPG

Dear Friend,

The Arkansas Sierra Club, a CFC Member group, is working hard to block a dirty energy bill, and they need your help! The bill will be in the Senate Insurance and Commerce Committee, which your Senator serves on, next week. See the Sierra Club's alert below for more info and how to contact your state Senator.

I've never seen anything like this:

After losing its cases in the courts, Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), has resorted to trying to write their own laws. They are abusing our democratic process to push a dirty coal plant and make some money.

If their bill passes, years of hard-fought court victories against the Turk coal-fired plant could be undone in a few weeks. We must stop them in their tracks-- and fast.

This bill is likely to pass through the state House of Representatives, but it can be stopped it in the Senate if we act now. Tell the Senate Insurance and Commerce Committee to vote against SWEPCO's bill!

SWEPCO pushed the Turk coal-fired power facility ahead on faulty legal grounds, and now that the courts are scrutinizing SWEPCO's actions, SWEPCO is trying to change the very law that is the subject of the current pending court cases! That's not playing fair.

SWEPCO is already taking an enormous gamble with Arkansas' public health by building with contested permits. Now, it is targeting the legislature to do its bidding and strip our legal protections.

Just a few minutes of your time will protect years of victories against Turk.

We can't stand idly by while SWEPCO plays the system and undermines the courts. Tell the Senators on the Senate Insurance and Commerce Committee to stop this bill.

Sincerely,

Lev Guter

Sierra Club Arkansas

P.S. After you take action, be sure to forward this alert to your friends and colleagues!
