Dear Friend,
The legislature adjourned today after giving approval to measures defining congressional district boundaries. Under SB972 and the companion HB1836, previous district lines will be redrawn to redistribute the population evenly among the four congressional districts, following the 2010 census.
You can see the new approved Congressional district map in detail at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette website, as well as how it compares to current districts.
The total state population has increased over 9 percent since the last census, conducted in 2000. After several weeks of debate and many suggested district maps, the final approved map reduces the 3rd district by over 93,000 people.
Crawford and Sebastian counties will be split near Fort Smith between the 3rd and 4th districts. Fayetteville will stay in the 3rd district. All counties along the Mississippi River will now be in the 1st district. The 4th districts will extend north, taking in Franklin, Johnson and Madison counties.

With the session completed, we have been working on our Community Guide to the Arkansas Legislature, which includes a Scorecard on each legislator, their votes on all of the CFC Priority bills, and information on important bills from this session. The vote guide will be out soon, so that you can see how your legislators voted!
